09 Apr 2020 Quarantine is a brutal way of life for wild horses

]An email I received from the Black Hills Wild Sanctuary puts the word quarantine in perspective.

Rounded up, split up, segregated, and incarcerated, our country’s wild horses know a thing or two about being quarantined.

Freedom comes to an abrupt halt. Health deteriorates. The connection from the herd severed.

A parallel story emerges in the lives of those with coronavirus-19. Adult children wave outside nursing home windows. Groceries are deposited on the front steps. Severely ill patients fight the virulent virus alone. Thousands die each day.

We are living in a historical moment, a life-changing time, a period of history, unlike any other for many generations.

As we scramble to integrate health guidelines into our lives and reach out to those in need in our communities, we come to terms with what it means to be apart from those we love.

Captured wild horses live this existential hell every day. There is no exit.
